The Hun School of Princeton seeks a dynamic and creative Head Athletic Trainer. The athletic trainer is responsible for the care, treatment, and prevention of athletic injuries and for all students involved in the interscholastic program. The trainer, under the supervision of the team physician, is also responsible for implementing programs to prevent injuries, to treat injuries, and to establish procedures for rehabilitation.
The athletic trainer position reports to the co-directors of athletics, the position is beginning approximately mid-September.
Responsibilities Overview:
• Attend practices/games of athletic events. Should a conflict arise between multiple games, a prioritized list will be determined between the trainer and the co-directors of athletics;
• On standard school days: Flexible schedule created in conjunction with other athletic trainers to cover treatment hours during the day (roughly 10am-2pm) and active practice & game hours between 2pm until the end of the day (last practice/game);
• On solely game days, training room is to be opened, one and half (1 ½) hours prior to game time and to remain open at least thirty (30) minutes after the completion of the game;
• On solely practice days, training room is to be opened one (1) hour prior to practice time and to remain open at least thirty (30) minutes after the completion of the last practice;
• Provide coverage during:
• School scheduled days off and holidays when teams are practicing;
• For any state or league championship games which the School is participating in or hosting.
• Establish specific hours for rehabilitation;
• Create monthly schedules for entire athletic training staff;
• Assume complete responsibility for the training room and maintaining its cleanliness;
• Meet with the athletic department and health office on a weekly basis;
• Maintain accurate and up to date files for the following:
• Medical excuses and release forms;
• Initial injury/ accident report forms;
• Pre-season physical forms (in coordination with the Health Services Office);
• Daily log treatment;
• IMPACT baseline testing;
• Communicate medical participation & clearance status with coaches;
• Prepare a list of students with Allergy and Medication issues for coaches;
• Injury information handouts for treatment;
• Communicate with parents, team doctors, and co-directors of athletics regarding athletic injuries in a timely manner;
• Maintain daily contact with head coaches regarding injuries;
• Maintain inventory of supplies, stock and maintain first aid kits on a regular basis for each team; and re-order supplies through the co-directors of athletics;
• Distribute water coolers and ice chest daily to each team (ability to lift a 10 gallon water cooler -approximate weight 65lbs);
• Distribute and collect walkie-talkies assigned to teams on a daily basis;
• Assist with athletic office duties as deemed necessary by the co-directors of athletics;
Requirements:
• Masters degree desired, Bachelor’s degree minimum;
• Maintain NATA certification and registration with the State of NJ Medical Examiner’s office;
• Work schedule includes days, evenings, weekends and school holidays;
• Must be detailed oriented as well as through and accurate attention to details and communication;
• Excellent interpersonal skills including responsive customer service and strong oral and written communication;
• Strong technical competency of Microsoft Office suite skills;
• Ability to prioritize and effectively manage diverse tasks in a fast-paced environment, and complete job responsibilities with minimal supervision direction;
• Value collegiality and teamwork;
• Must possess good social skills and ability to interact and work with a diverse group that makes up the Hun School community including students, parents co-workers, staff, and faculty;
