Job Summary:
The Production Manager TCU Press is responsible for managing TCU Press by working with authors on manuscripts until production process is complete.
Duties & Essential Job Functions:
1. Manages publishing processes by working with authors and designers to prepare electronic files for printer; negotiating conditions and issues with printer; developing and maintaining schedule for annual publications; sending manuscripts or other forms of copy in electronic format to printer or external vendors; troubleshooting issues to meet requirements and deadlines; and editing and preparing photos and illustrations for printer.
2. Assists with editorial processes by reviewing manuscripts and other forms of copy; making suggested changes; revising page and press proofs; overseeing lay out of completed works.
3. Manages web-based projects by monitoring project progress; coordinating activities; resolving problems; making recommendations for improvements.
4. Supports operations by training and supervising TCU Press student workers. Hires and supervises freelance editors and designers.
5. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in experience
• 3 years in a publication’s environment working with authors to produce finished products
• 1 year preparing manuscripts for printing (experience can be concurrent)
Preferred Education & Experience:
• 1 year supervising student workers or other employees

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Knowledge of internet/intranet, WWW, FTP, HTML, and standard graphics applications.
• Knowledge of web-based programming languages, tools and technologies.
• Knowledge of customer service techniques.
• Knowledge of current printing technologies.
• Knowledge of Adobe Suites, especially PhotoShop and InDesign.
• Knowledge of the Chicago Manuel of Style (CMS).
• Skills (advanced) in Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Word.
• Ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing.
• Ability to review and make changes to improve and streamline production process.
• Ability to organize complex projects.
• Ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously and pay close attention to details.
• Ability to work as a team member.
